Midwifery

Women often opt to entrust their prenatal care, labor, and delivery to a midwife, typically within a hospital setting. With over 7,000 midwives practicing in the U.S., they are involved in about 10 percent of all births. At NADIA M MILEO MD OBGYN, we have a longstanding tradition of integrating midwives as essential members of our obstetrical team, providing care for expectant mothers and supporting births.

What is Midwifery

Midwifery is a specialized healthcare field focused on providing personalized and holistic care for women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Certified nurse-midwives emphasize informed decision-making, reduce unnecessary interventions, and strive to create a supportive and respectful birthing experience. Often working alongside obstetricians, midwives deliver comprehensive, continuous care that is tailored to the unique needs of each woman.

Difference Between Midwives and Obstetricians

Certified nurse-midwives are registered nurses who have completed additional graduate training in midwifery. They are specialists dedicated to offering pregnant women accessible, respectful care, emphasizing informed choices while minimizing unnecessary medical interventions without compromising on advanced medical care. While physicians must allocate time to address pregnancy complications, midwives can focus on a wide range of normal concerns that families encounter. During each prenatal visit, their aim is to discuss whatever is on a woman’s mind—from birth plans to selecting a car seat.

Why Choose Midwifery

Opt for midwifery for a personalized and holistic approach to pregnancy that prioritizes informed choices while minimizing unnecessary medical interventions. Benefit from the dedicated time spent addressing common concerns, comprehensive prenatal education, and a continuous, respectful care experience. The integrated model at practices like NADIA M MILEO MD OBGYN fosters seamless collaboration between midwives and obstetricians, ensuring optimal support throughout your pregnancy journey.
